ATPL (A) - Theory Course

Theory distance learning course for those who want flying to become more than just a hobby. After completing this course and passing exams at the Civil Aviation Authority, you will receive your ATPL (A) Airline Pilot License. This is the highest certification of professional pilots available and whoever has it can fly as first officer or captain of commercial aircraft. At the same time, you will acquire all the theoretical knowledge required for obtaining Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) and Instrument Rating (IR) Qualification.

Course Entry Requirements

  • ICAO Aviation English Level 4 proficiency standard
  • Full secondary education with GCSE
  • PPL(A) License


650 hours (approx. 7 months of studying)
  • The course is divided into distance learning phase, incl. CBT and e-learning issues from Bristol, followed by personal consultations in the CAFC classroom. In case you are not able to attend scheduled consultation, you can substitute it with another class, or catch up the knowledge later. Should you miss more of these consultations, the planning department will help you to solve such situation individually.
  • CBTs contain videos, study materials and a set of questions including progress tests.
  • Out of 650 study hours in total, 165 hours (ie approximately 24%) are dedicated to personal consultations with CAFC lecturers.
  • We are doing our best to plan the consultations for the weekends to make it as easy as possible for you to attend.
  • Our scheduling department will make sure to send you exact dates of consultations well in advance.

Program Contents

  • The course comprises of 16 subjects: Air Law, Aircraft Systems, Aircraft Power Units, Electrical Installation, Instruments (Basic and Advanced), Mass and Balance, Aircraft Performance, Flight Planning and Monitoring, Human Performance and Limitations, Meteorology, General Navigation, Radionavigation, Operational Procedures, Principles of Flight, VFR and IFR Communications.
  • The course is designed as self-study program complemented by personal consultations with professional lecturers in Czech or English.
  • As the textbooks are available in English only, sufficient knowledge of the language is required. The learning materials are not included in the cost of the course.

  • Option to purchase CBT from Bristol Ground School for 440 EUR + 21% VAT.
  • The price does not include value added tax of 21%.
  • The course price does not include learning materials. PadPilot materials are available for download from iBooks for EUR 29.99 for each of the 16 items.
  • The cost of the course does not include exam fees paid at the Civil Aviation Authority.
